24th-May-2012 05:19 pm - Where The Sidewalk Ends
Polly / cute cartoon

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Cancer and proud
... do I just not see the appeal of Blake Lively? I don't particularly think she is a good actress. And her look. She's not unfortunate looking, but she looks like a million other young, blond thin girls in Hollywood. Also I am just not understanding why the fashion industry falls all over her like they are. Ah well.

The Travolta I will always have memories of right here.

This John Travolta thing is bizarre. Just crazy. All these guys coming out of the woodwork and none of them with any kind of solid and unmitigated proof that he did the things they are saying he did? Now I've heard the "closeted gay" thing about him for years. I never gave it much thought because really, it's not relevant to anything as far as I'm concerned, it's his life. He has a wife and children, and he's also Scientologist, so whatever there. I'm not one that believes that people need to be yanked out of the closet. If whatever they're doing works for them, and they aren't harming anyone leave them alone. I'm still kind of like "I wanna see the receipts" about this whole thing.

I'm wondering though if all this is tied to the rumors I've heard about him wanting to leave Scientology? They don't take too kindly to that I hear and can make a person's life hell. They don't want to lose their celebrities because that's where they get a lot of $$$ from.

I just feel bad for him, if none of this is true. He and Kelly have been through so much. No parent should lose a child, and to have to go through that grieving process in the public eye has to be doubly hard. I like him. I think he's a fine actor, and I have a soft place in my heart for him from his "Welcome Back Kotter" and "Grease" days. I hope everything works out for him. If this *is* true, it really disappoints and saddens me, because yes, that's sexual assault we're talking about. I don't know, I don't know. Watching how this whole sordid thing unfolds, I guess.

Build your perfect pizza for us. Thick or thin crust, red or white sauce, the sky's the limit on toppings -- what makes your mouth water most when picking up a slice? What abomination of a topping will never grace your pizza, even though you see others enjoying it?

My favorite is hand tossed medium crust, tomato basil sauce, fresh italian sausage, red and green pepper, onion, a little banana pepper. Sometimes get a little adventurous and pick out different stuff, different combinations that look interesting. We usually order from a restaurant near here that doesn't deliver, we go and pick it up, and only get Dominos when really pressed for time, don't feel like picking something up ourselves and need it super fast since they're always right here. I haven't had Papa John's in ages.

As far as toppings I can't stand, I will never, EVER accept anchovies on my pizza. EWWWWW.

I was setting up a little beach / pool playlist on my iTunes and did one on Spotify as well. If you have Spotify set up, follow me! You can find a convenient little widget to click on there in the left hand sidebar on my journal.

In setting mine up, I was looking around at some others for inspiration and just to be nosy and see what other people have on their summer playlists. I saw "Boys of Summer" by Don Henley on so many of them. It's even on Billboards top 100 summer songs list. Not on mine. That is an AUTUMN song! It opens with "Nobody on the road, nobody on the beach..." and instills, to me anyway, the end of summer along the California coast when everyone's gone, and it's getting colder as the days go into Autumn. It's also more thoughtful and kind of melancholic in feel to me, looking back on what you've left behind. Summer flings that were had and come to and end as the summer days fade. I love the song, and the video. Just not on a SUMMER playlist.

Anyhow, if you check it out on Spotify, hope you enjoy it. What are some of your favorite summer songs?

There's room at the top they're telling you still.
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,
