Sublime peace, ecstatic joy, and thunderstruck awe: terebinth pine, patchouli, brown musk, linden blossom, honey, mallow, blood orange, heliotrope, and golden amber.
Well hello, Wind in the Willows *and* Pink Floyd? Win win! Earthy and hippie-like. I'm going to age this one I think though.
Listen:
Peter Gabriel 1: Car (1977)
Got this for Christmas on CD, had meant to add it to my collection for awhile anyway.
Peter has always been so creative and artistic. This was his first solo album after leaving Genesis.
It's a solid effort, and keeps the progressive sensibility, particularly in "Moribund The Burgermeister".
He also had a smash with "Solisbury Hill" here.

Laurel Canyon: The Inside Story of Rock and Roll's Legendary Neighborhood - Michael Walker
In the Los Angeles hills, just north of Sunset Boulevard, lies the neighborhood from where some of the most successful artists / singer-songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s lived and created.
People like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Joni Mitchell, the Mamas and the Papas, Eagles, Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison... This was the "golden age", the time of wild creativity and wonderful music.
It was an interesting, quick read. I enjoyed it because I'm of course a fan of many of these bands and artists anyway. While kind of uneven in places, and I felt could have been a bit better, I recommend it for something light and fun for fans of the same artists.

Friends <-- My way cool and groovy El Jay Friends Page!!
Movies, music, pop culture. With maybe an occasional personal ramble.
This blog, though not expressly friends only, is friends only more often than not. Quite a few personal entries will be friends locked. So LJ users, if you want to be added and able to read everything, just comment or sign the guestbook to let me know you've done so.
Do know that I may not always add you back. But may be persuaded to if you're nice. And offer cookies.
I tend to like to sometimes post surveys and quizzes that I find particularly amusing. And memes are fun. Particularly when there isn't really anything interesting to write about at that moment and I want to post. I try not to get overly annoying with the quizzes though. If I do, feel free to poke me and let me know.
I tend to just be random in my posting. Nothing too heavy or overly personal, my paper journal is for that, and just for me. I may post here about news headlines that grab me, some family stuff, things I'm obsessing over at the moment, even work rants. See my LJ interests for more of my favorites and loves.
Commenting is welcome, and I do allow anonymous comments. However, anonymous comments are screened and will NOT be unscreened and show up until I approve them.
I LOVE "Clean House". Right now there's an ep of "Clean House Comes Clean" on... their "behind the scenes" show, where they show you and talk about certain families, and what happened off camera etc. Love the chemistry between Niecy Nash, Trish Suhr, Matt Iseman, and Mark Brunetz. They're terrific, always make the show fun to watch, and Mark's style is impeccable. If I had the money, I'd so have him design my place.
Anyway the amusing.
Trish to Mark: You're gay?! Mark to Trish: I'm not gay, my boyfriend is!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Fabulous.
And OMG don't Google Niecy Nash. The first pictures that come up... OMG GUUUUUURRRLLLL!!!! *shocked*
Other randomness:
Liv, you're so cute. <3 this commercial just came on TV. LOL!
Found on YouTube.Donny Osmond discovers exactly what Haggis is. I still maintain that much Scottish cuisine is based on a dare, and repellent in every way. And yes, I got that from "Axe Murderer". Haha!
For those not in the know, Donny's son Brandon is correct in saying it's the sheep's insides. It's the innards of a sheep, mixed together with oatmeal, suet and spices, then boiled for an hour inside the sheep's stomach sac. Yum. NOT. I tried it once in my entire life and I'm here to tell ya. ::retching sound::
This is from the Tour Diary on the Live At Edinburgh Castle DVD. I thought it was the cutest conversation though. Just the way Donny walks off saying "That's just wrong!" cracks me up.
26th-May-2006 06:28 pm - Oh teh intarwebs. So amusing.
Just got directed to this funny MySpace profile via someone on one of my forums.
God has a MySpace. He has 186 friends. I had to chuckle to see people like Joseph, Moses, John the Baptist and yes, of course Donny Osmond among them. OMG the little video is cute, too. To the tune of Joan Osborne's "One Of Us".
And just so it's an even playing field, Satan has one, too. He, however only has 55 friends, therefore is not as popular as God. Take THAT Beelzebub! Bwahahahaha!!
And OMG.... GEE?
Seriously, WTF did Clay do to his hair? No. NOOOOO. *shakes head furiously*
I'm a member of 72 communities, five of those I maintain, which I catch up on through a filter.
I have 16 RSS feeds going into my journal at the moment, which, yes are filtered.
I have 95 people on my friends list which of course can fluctuate as people leave me or join me. The most I've ever had at one time was 103 I think. I never really have gone over that amount.
I also read my friends through a filter. I read those journals first then if I have the time and inclination I'll catch up with feeds then communities.
Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? Though yeah some of these are pretty... um... pretty awful. Some of the commentary cracked me the hell UP.
My personal favorites are the Dwarves and Millie Jackson. Oh the bad taste! Bwahahaha!
And I object! Donny's on there! Well, maybe I don't. That is a pretty cringe inducing cover.
That this sign has now been posted outside Cruise-azy Central, aka the Tom Cruise / Katie Holmes manse, can only mean the birth of the TomKitten is imminent.
...but be silent and make all physical movements slow and understandable...
OMG like the signs they'd post at the zoo during feeding time, no?
Just for a lark, I went searching for songs with my name, Polly, in them. I'm not talking about children's songs like "Polly Put The Kettle On" or "Polly Wolly Doodle" either, but my name in popular / rock music lyrics. The couple I did find had pretty horrible topics! Observe.
Pretty Polly by The Byrds
(Pretty Polly, pretty Polly, you guessed it just right I dug all your grave the better part of last night"
Then he stabbed her in her heart till her heart's blood did flow He stabbed her in her heart till her heart's blood did flow Down into the grave pretty Polly did go...)
Polly by Nirvana
(I've got some rope... have been told Promise you... have been true Let me take a ride... don't hurt yourself Want some help...please myself...)
Hmm... so let's see... murdered in one, tortured and raped in the other. LOL!! Wow. I think the former is an old folk song, covered by many artists over the years. I've heard the Byrds version which is why I exampled that one here. The latter was based on a true news story about a 14 year old girl in Tacoma Washington who was kidnapped and subsequently raped and tortured by her abductor. She escapes by flirting with him, and he is then convinced to let her go.
I'm always on the lookout for more upbeat, happier songs with my namesake. I don't have the most common of names however, and lyrically, maybe others sound alot better. This has put me in quite a morose mood. Haha!
Meanwhile, ossie made me this. My name in the sand. Quite lovely. :)
Annnnd... a couple of new icons. Using one of them here.
