This blog, though not expressly friends only, is friends only more often than not. Quite a few personal entries will be friends locked. So LJ users, if you want to be added and able to read everything, just comment or sign the guestbook to let me know you've done so.

Do know that I may not always add you back. But may be persuaded to if you're nice. And offer cookies.

I tend to like to sometimes post surveys and quizzes that I find particularly amusing. And memes are fun. Particularly when there isn't really anything interesting to write about at that moment and I want to post. I try not to get overly annoying with the quizzes though. If I do, feel free to poke me and let me know.

I tend to just be random in my posting. Nothing too heavy or overly personal, my paper journal is for that, and just for me. I may post here about news headlines that grab me, some family stuff, things I'm obsessing over at the moment, even work rants. See my LJ interests for more of my favorites and loves.

24th-Jun-2008 12:33 pm - Summer Song Playlist
iPod
I made myself another playlist for my iPod and thought I'd share.

For your iPod (or mp3 player of your choice) if you so desire, I have a little playlist of songs all about summer. Starts off sweet with Chad & Jeremy and as the summer ends and fades away to autumn, we're left with the Summer Wind and memories of the fun we had All Summer Long.

A Summer Song - Chad & Jeremy
Soft kisses on a summer's day
Laughing all our cares away
Just you and I.

Summersong - The Decemberists
My girl, linen and curls
Lips parting like a flag all unfurled
She's grand the bend of her hand
Digging deep into the sweep of the sand.

Summer Breeze - Seals and Crofts
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

Summer In The City - The Lovin' Spoonful
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city

Cruel Summer - Bananarama
Hot summer streets
And the pavements are burning
I sit around
Trying to smile
But the air is so heavy and dry

Hot Fun in the Summertime - Sly and the Family Stone
End of the spring and here she comes back
Hi Hi Hi Hi there
Them summer days, those summer days

That's when I had most of my fun, back
high high high high there
Them summer days, those summer days

In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

Green Onions - Booker T and the MGs
Instrumental, wonderful, and no "summer" in the title, but had to put this here "just because."

Soak Up The Sun - Sheryl Crow
Okay, doesn't as well have "summer" in the title, but another "just because".

I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me

Summertime - Janis Joplin

And okay so I could include as a bonus, even, the great Billy Stewart cover of this great Gershwin classic but I love me some Janis so hers is the "official" addition to the list.

Summertime and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh your daddy’s rich and your ma is good lookin’
So hush little baby, don’t you cry

Summer Days - Bob Dylan
Summer days, summer nights are gone
Summer days and the summer nights are gone
I know a place where there's still somethin' going on

Summer Wind - Frank Sinatra
The summer wind came blowin' in from across the sea.
It lingered there, so warm and fair to walk with me.
All summer long, we sang a song and strolled on golden sand,
Two sweethearts and the summer wind.

All Summer Long - The Boys
Won't be long till summertime is through
(Summertime is through)
Not for us now

I've left the files in a .zip folder for you so grab it if you want. Leave a comment if you do take, please? ---> Summer Songs (.zip file 50.07 MB)
Download will expire, so grab it while it lasts.

earphones / nietzsche quote
As an April Fool's joke on a forum I frequent, the moderators got together and decided to switch the forum to all 70s without us knowing. We all logged on this morning and saw it changed. It's only for today but it's been a lot of fun talking about our old teen idols and rock stars. :)

I was a huge David Cassidy / Partridge Family fan back in the day and one of the topics were favorite PF songs. I couldn't help but start humming my favorites as I read. LOL! Made me decide to put together a little playlist of them, my favorites in the Partridge Family repertoire to share with the ladies over there. I thought I'd let you grab it too if you want it.

29th-Nov-2006 01:19 pm - More mix-age.
earphones / nietzsche quote
I just had an idea for a mix to use on the iPod or burning to CD. My "Morning Mix". If you want the whole thing or just a song or two or three... just comment and I'll be happy to oblige, I should have most of these on my hard drive but if I don't I can find them here for you easily enough. Onward.

The morning. I want music that will both get me going but is also more gentle at the same time. It has to put me in a good frame of mind. I'm not in the mood most mornings for anything very heavy, that is for later as the day progresses. Your morning playlist can include songs that directly reference the morning or just songs that you *like* hearing in the morning. Here's mine:

*Morning Has Broken - Cat Stevens.
Just beautiful. Did you know that Stevens didn't write this? It's an old Christian hymn written by Eleanor Farjeon. Love the piano, and his wonderful soaring vocals. "Morning has broken, like the first morning. Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird. Praise for the singing, praise for the morning. Praise for the springing fresh from the world..."

*Good Morning, Good Morning - The Beatles.
Well what could rouse you and says "morning" more than a crowing cockerel? John Lennon was inspired to write this one watching a cereal commercial... for Corn Flakes. "Good morning, good morning, good morning-ah."

*Beautiful Day - U2.
Sets you in the right frame of mind. "It's a beautiful day, don't let it get away."

*59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) - Simon and Garfunkel.
"Slow down, you move too fast. You got to make the morning last just kickin' down the cobblestones, lookin' for fun and feelin' groovy..."

*Good Day Sunshine - The Beatles.
This one is just... happy. Sweet and light. I listen to it and I can just feel the sun shining on my face. "I need to laugh, and when the sun is out I've got something I can laugh about. I feel good, in a special way. I'm in love and it's a sunny day. Good day sunshine ..."

*Good Morning, Starshine - Oliver.
"The earth says hello. You twinkle above us, we twinkle below..."

*Chelsea Morning - Joni Mitchell.
"And the light poured in like butterscotch and stuck to all my senses..."

*Wake Up - Arcade Fire.
Evolves into something so large, so amazing.

*La Ballade de Lily Rose - Vanessa Paradis.
Just because I kinda like it. And her. She's cool, and the woman has Johnny Depp to wake up next to so helllllll yeah. Johnny plays on this track I believe come to think of it. It's a sweet song for their daughter, in French.

*Hella Good - No Doubt.
Yeah a little something more to liven things up and get me moving. No doubt.

*Another Day - Paul McCartney.
"So sad, so sad." Yes, really it's a very lonely song. But the "do do do do do do it's just another day..." is perfect for heading out the door into the rat race.

Coffee? Tea? A bagel? It's alright, the weekend will be here soon enough and you can sleep in.

So, good mornin', good mornin'!
Sunbeams will soon smile through,
Good mornin', good mornin', to you!
22nd-Oct-2006 03:18 pm - Work out with me!
iPod
Polly's Workout Playlist

Here's what I use to get myself movin' and groovin'.

Warm Up

Warming up is important. To warm up I do a little light yoga and some poses for stretching. Breathe, and get the muscles prepared for your workout. I usually put on some Indian stuff... mantras, ragas, chants ... just to get in tune, and align my body and spirit. The stuff is also just great to relax to and meditate to. I have a tiny bit of Ravi Shankar for that purpose and a CD I bought off iTunes that sounded great when I was looking for yoga music. It's called Yoga Rhythm and it's by Brent Lewis and Soul Food. Excellent. There's another one I purchased too, for when I'd rather have classical renderings, called Classical Music For Yoga by Zen Lounge. It's beautiful. I'd share them with you here, but since they are from iTunes, they're protected so I can't. I do recommend them to you though.

For Walking / Light Treadmill

I'm lucky in that I live in an area where I have temperate weather and can walk often. I also have some wonderful scenery to enjoy! It's important for me to have music that keeps me in rhythm and at a good pace. I tend to like to listen to fun 70s/80s pop stuff that I love when walking. On my walking playlist:

*Hooked On A Feeling - Blue Swede *Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry *Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynard *Boogie Wonderland - Earth, Wind & Fire *One Bad Apple - The Osmonds *Boogie Oogie Oogie - A Taste Of Honey *Straight Up - Paula Abdul *Mercedes Boy - Pebbles *Miss You Much - Janet Jackson *Down Under - Men At Work *Get Down Tonight - KC and the Sunshine Band *Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder *Good Times - Chic *Raspberry Beret - Prince *Girlfriend - Pebbles *The Glamorous Life - Sheila E *Human - The Human League *Walk This Way - Aerosmith *Let's All Chant - Michael Zager Band

For Higher Intensity / Cardio

Cardio requires you step it up a bit, really work it and get that heart rate up. It's gotta be high energy. My current Cardio playlist:

*Block Rockin' Beats - Chemical Brothers *One Week - Barenaked Ladies *Toxic - Britney Spears *London Bridge - Fergie *Fighter - Christina Aguilera *Canned Heat - Jamiroquai (get your Napoleon Dynamite on, yo) *Bodyrock - Moby *Breathe - Prodigy *Hey Ya! - Out Kast *SexyBack - Justin Timberlake *Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs *Survivor - Destiny's Child *Ray of Light - Madonna *Pump Up The Jam - Technotronic *Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes *Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode

Some of the only times I listen to a few of these on the Cardio list by the way, is when working out. The beats are good and they keep you going. So before you start pouring the haterade for the likes of Christina, Britney, Fergie and Justin etc., yo. :p

The Cool Down

Time to take it down, now. It's better for you to gradually ebb in intensity than to just stop all together. Just about 5-10 minutes will do. Put on a couple slower songs, and stretch some more or slowly walk it down.

Currently my cool down is "Hey Nineteen" by Steely Dan or Sleepwalker by Johnny and Santo. It can vary though. Anything easy and slower paced.

If in the off chance you are interested in any of these mixes (except the yoga stuff) comment and let me know and I can drop a .zip of it here for you. And! I'm always open to more ideas. What's on your workout playlists at the moment?
26th-Sep-2006 11:46 am - Halloween Playlist 2006!
iPod
I'm getting antsy. September is rolling to a close (finally... four days left) and my favorite month of the whole year is upon us once again! October! Time for Halloween Month Movie A Night, and I now have my Halloween '06 Playlist in progress for the ol' iPod.

I've been using the same playlist (see it here) the past two years and will probably still have it out as well. But this year, something different struck me. Horror movies! Great horror movie themes, with snippets of great dialogue in between! So get your "Freaks" on and get a look at a sneak peek of my Horror Movie Halloweenapalooza. In progress. Haha!

Here we go!! Oh you're gonna love this one, it's a scream, baby!

The Shining
"redRUM!"
The Shining Theme
Psycho
"A boy's best friend is his mother..."
Psycho Theme
The Silence of the Lambs
"A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. *hiss*"
The Silence Of The Lambs (Main Theme)
**BONUS Silence of the Lambs content**
"Put the fucking lotion in the basket!"
Goodbye Horses - Q Lazzarus (song that is playing as Jame Gumb dances in front of the mirror)
The Exorcist
"The power of Christ compels you!"
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield (The Exorcist Main Theme)
A Nightmare On Elm Street
"One, two, Freddie's coming for you..."
A Nightmare On Elm Street (Main Theme)
Scream
"You're gonna love this one, it's a scream, baby!"
Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly) - Icicle Works (I believe the SoHo version was the one over the end credits of the film but this is cooler, it's the original.)
Halloween
"He is coming to your little town!" (not included yet)
Halloween (Main Theme)
Night of the Living Dead
"They're coming to get you, Barbara!" (not included yet)
Night of the Living Dead (End Theme)
The Sixth Sense
"I see dead people."
The Sixth Sense (Main Theme)

Any other suggestions? What would you like included? Want a copy when complete? Just comment.

Note! There are two sound bites I'm hunting for and don't have but want badly for this playlist. The Halloween movie one of Loomis... either this one or when he says "Hey, Lonnie! Get your ass away from there!" and the one from Night of the Living Dead where Barbara's brother taunts "They're coming to get you Barbara!". I've had no luck on Lime Wire or Bear Share. If you can help me in any way please comment! I could make them myself, but no longer have a microphone so can't create a .wav file of them.
